I’m wondering if I can start an advertising and/or marketing agency. For the last couple of years I’ve developed good relations with several people in radio/newspapers/online/TV, etc. So I’m at this stage in which I would like to get something started along the lines of advertising and marketing. I am more into P.R. work than advertising, but I’m being very broad and general with the question, so advertising pretty much covers the entire scope of what I would like to do.

I’m pretty creative, net-savvy, and the only thing I’m not aware of is how to get started. Or if there is any specific set of “expectations” from an agency.

I’ve been thinking about getting some referrals by helping some of the lonely booth people in the middle of malls and the like. And a few unsuccessful-yet-potential-cash-cow restaurants.

Where do I go from here?

I’m looking for any good print or online resources for current and up-to-date mareketing and advertising news. Sources that could provide updates on what agencies have gained/lost business, announcements for larger corporations, companies marketing objectives.

Sites like Ad Age and Mediaweek are pretty obvious and I subscribe to Media Buyer/Planner daily. Does anyone else have any good resources?

How does advertising complement other elements of marketing communication?

I really like the idea of one day working in the advertising and marketing field. Which major should i take up in college, psychology or communications? I heard that psychology is a bad major to get into why is that? I happen to like psychology a lot, would it be bad to take it if i want to get into advertising??

I’m really interested in both! but my main concern is to have a job right out of college and make a good salary, and which one will be most in demand. I plan to get experience and do an intern or two before i graduate. I must make a choice right now. Im not sure about what career choice i want. I like communications/advertising/marketing/promotions/media/fun/ rewarding/magazines type of areas. So what route should i take?

and please dont say do what i love or follow my heart. i want to make money ok.

also does anyone know anything about “marketing communications” there is a concentration at my school with that title. just curios.
and which has the most value?

I recently found a form that you could fill out and send to the Joint Advertising & Marketing Research & Studies Office (JAMRS) that requests that they remove your name & personnel info from their military recruitment database and I was wondering if that means that they (JAMRS) have the personnel information of every potential recruit in their database already, or if they pick this info up when you enter college, or if you have to show intrest in joining the military, like fill out forms, and then they log you into the system.

Im looking to apply to a college, however cant really decipher the difference things each major would do. Thanks for any input!
