I live near a public library and they provide a new public wi-fi network. I have already a pci ethernet card and I have installed it on my computer. My computer says I am connected to the network and the speed is 100mbps, but when I open Internet Explorer, a page connot be displayed appears. Why does this happen? If it matters, I also have a dial-up connection. Even when I disconnect the dial-up, I still can’t acess the internet through the network. What should I do?

I have an HP computer running on Windows XP. My external speakers will play music from the computer and sounds on games but nothing from the internet. I’ve downloaded the windows multi media player and quick time plug-ins for Firefox but I’m getting no sound from either Firefox or Internet Explorer. Can someone please help me?

recently networked a few computers at my house. an older computer given to me for some reason will open internet explorer. shortly after on it the entire window closes and I have to start over. then it does it once more. I also notice things running in the background like infomercials etc. they pop up randomly. I think this particular computer has adware or a virus of some sort.

I have tried everything from changing proxy settings to unplugging and resetting my router and my DSL connections. Internet explorer works up until i try to log on to my email, or anything that involves logging on. I can access webpages and view streaming video. Firefox wont work and my Instant messengers programs wont log in, the same goes for online games.
Anybody know whats wrong?

Even after closing internet explorer, the windows task manager will still indicate it running as a process. So even while it is closed, it will occasionally open up pop-up ads and slow down my computer. I want to not have it running at all in any way shape or form unless I choose to open it (which i likely wont since firefox is the superior browser). I am considering just removing it entirely from my computer if i cant find a good solution.
